My formal editing experience includes work for the following clients:

  • Carolina Academic Press. I copyedit legal and sport-related titles for this press, including works on constitutional law, market branding, and case briefs.
  • Duke University Press. I proofed and copyedited for the books division of Duke University Press. While in college, I interned for a year at Duke Press, gaining considerable skills in proofreading, production, and publication design. I served as editorial assistant for the Journal of Medieval and Early Modern Studies and Opera Quarterly; both positions required preparing manuscripts, assisting in editing and proofreading, and facilitating correspondence among the authors, editors, and board members. I currently provide copyediting services to the books division.
  • Hayes Barton Press. I provide copyediting (online and hard copy) for Hayes Barton Press’s medical school textbooks. Titles include Cardiopulmonary Physiology (2nd edition), various dental school introductory texts, and Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Pathophysiology (2nd edition).
  • Ivy House Books. Ivy House Books (formerly Pentland Press) provides full-service, high-quality publishing options for self-publishing authors and groups. I provided freelance copyediting services for them, which included making all editorial changes on disk.
  • McFarland & Company, Publishers. McFarland publishes a wide range of general interest and scholarly books. I provide copyediting services on hard copy. Some specific titles I’ve edited include a filmography of Burt Lancaster, Designed to Break Your Heart (the story of the 1939 Cincinnati Reds and baseball’s only in-season suicide), Gold Star Mothers (about the mothers of World War I soldiers who traveled to Europe to see their sons’ graves), a social history of tipping, a Vietnam War memoir, and a history of the traveling medicine show.
  • Menasha Ridge Press. I provided online copyediting for Menasha Ridge Press’s Unofficial Guide travel titles. I copyedited the Unofficial Guide to Miami (3rd edition), Unofficial Guide to Cruising 1999 (and 2000, 2001, and 2002 editions), Unofficial Guide to London, and Unofficial Guide to Golf Vacations in the East, several bed-and-breakfast guides, Unofficial Guide to Hawaii, and Unofficial Guide to Central Italy. I’ve also copyedited several Mountain Bike! titles, several Best in Tent Camping titles, and a guide to ethnic cuisine.
  • Oxford University Press. I edited the quarterly journals Economic Inquiry, Contemporary Economic Policy, Social Politics, and Journal of History of Medicine and Allied Sciences; I also worked on two World Bank journals published by Oxford (World Bank Economic Review and World Bank Research Observer). Primarily I provide copyediting for the books division.
  • John Wiley and Sons. I have copyedited or proofed several textbook titles (including college-level and graduate-level textbooks for social work, physics, math, and management) for Wiley, as well as a few trade titles.
  • Previous clients include Carolina Biological Supply (proofing catalogs and newsletters), Impressions Book & Journal Services (online copyediting for academic and textbook titles), Springer-Verlag (copyedited monthly Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology), Consumer Reports (1998 Used Car Buying Guide, 1999 Consumer Reports Best Buys for Your Home, How to Plan for a Secure Retirement, Consumer Reports Best Travel Buys 1999 and 2000, and Consumer Reports Guide to Baby Products, two editions), Healthways Communications (nursing continuing education materials), Sandler & Recht Communications (pharmaceutical advertising materials), Learning Concepts (elementary school textbooks), and Frommer’s Travel Guides.
